RF Calibration and Distribution devices for SPIRAL2 BPMs

  In order to achieve the re­quired mea­sure­ment ac­cu­racy for the SPI­RAL2 BPMs in po­si­tions, el­lip­tic­i­ties and phases, new RF Cal­i­bra­tion and Dis­tri­b­u­tion de­vices were de­vel­oped, tested and in­stalled on the SPI­RAL2 Fa­cil­ity in 2022. Ac­cu­racy mea­sure­ments de­pends on gain and phase dif­fer­ences of the 4 BPM mea­sure­ment chan­nels. In order to com­pen­sate ana­logic dif­fer­ences, dig­i­tal cor­rec­tions are ap­plied in func­tion of the cal­i­bra­tion re­sults. One of the main ob­jec­tives was to au­to­mate the dif­fer­ent steps of the cal­i­bra­tion process in order to re­duce the cal­i­bra­tion time and avoid cable con­nec­tions and dis­con­nec­tions. The sec­ond ob­jec­tive was to dis­trib­ute RF ref­er­ence sig­nals to all BPM elec­tron­ics cards with the same am­pli­tudes and phases. This doc­u­ment de­scribes tech­ni­cal so­lu­tions and qual­i­fi­ca­tions per­formed, ex­plains the cal­i­bra­tion process, cor­rec­tions and re­sults ob­tained.
